SRKI-Youth Red Cross

Introduction: The Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of over 700 branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care of the vulnerable people and communities. It is a leading member of the largest independent humanitarian organization in the world, the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement.

The Mission of the Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized and even prevented and thus contribute to creating more congenial climate for peace.

YRC works on the basic 7 fundamental principles of International Federation of RED Cross & Red Crescent Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality which itself provides an ethical, operational and institutional framework to the work it does. YRC is a part of world’s biggest NGO IFRC, Indian Red Cross & Gujarat Red Cross Branch as well.

Establishment of SRKI- Youth Red Cross: On 12 th January 2017, 27 students came forward for Red Cross Activities and with their help SRKI- Youth Red Cross Club was formed. Presently there are 60 active YRC members from different courses of college.

Purpose of YRC formation: Students get exposure to do many humanitarian activities like Health awareness programs, different global problems, First AID, Rescue & relief work, climate resilience, disaster management, etc Students get opportunity to work for community services at local, regional, state, national & international levels. YRC tries to inculcate & incorporate the goals of Red Cross by different activities in young minds to prepare them for society & social work later.

Awarded Best Youth Red Cross Award at State Level: SRKI-Youth Red Cross wing of Surat District Red Cross Branch of Gujarat State received Best Youth Red Cross Award at State level amongst 17 Youth Red Cross wings of Gujarat State for its distinguished special activities for the year 2017 like novel project of rehydration kit making & distribution & awareness of it to combat heat wave, making different health & disease related awareness videos & starting their own you tube channel for such work etc. The rehydration kit project was not only appreciated but was utilized by other states’ wings to combat heat wave problems.

The award was handed over to Dr. Nehal Shah, the program officer of SRKI-YRC at the worthy hands of honorable Governor of Gujarat Shri O. P Kohli at Banquet Hall of Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar on 17th Feb. 2018.
