With the new advancements in the field of computers and in a time when there is a boom in the IT industry, the Sarvajanik Education Society introduced B.Sc. (Computer Science), a three year undergraduate course for the tech-savvy youth. Since the inception of this college the department of computer science has been in to existence i.e. from the year 1999. The course provides rigorous foundations of the concepts of Computer Science and Information Technology. In the final year, students also get an opportunity to do project work. Hence the combination of the concepts and training of software tools equip the students to adapt to ever-changing technology.In 2010, the department started offering a two years, post graduation level degree course, M.Sc. (Computer Application). The college is contributing in its own inimitable way to the development of Computer science by offering the courses with the help of efficient and highly qualified teachers and through a well-equipped computer lab.Every year the department is conducting various competitions like software programming, seminar and poster competitions for UG and PG students.

ACCESS

Servers in computer departments:

Primary domain controller: A PDC is prepared to provide restricted login access to the students and staff members of the institute. It has been synchronized with network storage to keep a safe copy of all important data.

Backup domain controller: A BDC is prepared to provide backbone support to the primary domain controller.

Oracle Server: An ORACLE database server is installed and configured to provide database service across the network. A node requires only client component to establish connectivity.

Access of devices for different users

Specific policy based logins in active directory of windows server 2008 are created for all users to provide relevant access to the student, faculties and others.

Rights to the access network attached devices including server and printer are also configured using group policy.

Wi-Fi and Internet Access:

Computers and IT equipments at various locations of institute are connected in network environment using four Wi-fi access points at four floors.

The institute has subscribed for 19.2 Mbps of broadband connection bandwidth to cater the need of internet usage of staff members and students.

Computer department is managing the provision of internet connectivity to the institute student and staff through wired and Wi-Fi network.

Internet connectivity is provided to entire campus including all the departments, class rooms, library and laboratory through four Wi-fi access points. Proxy server is used to manage and control the internet traffic

The internet can be used by students and faculties for teaching and learning purpose in controlled environment.

Network attached storage

The institute is having a NAS server that server that manages and maintains the institutional data at the centralized location for shared access, backup and retrieval.

NAS server is kept in server room of computer lab with 2 TB capacity of storage and RAID facility. The regular scheduled backup of data is taken daily. User wise data can be stored in secured mode and can be access at any location through network.

User wise data access has been restricted through custom configuration.

 

Purchase and maintenance

Purchase process of IT peripherals.

The management has implemented central purchase process system by inviting tenders from different vendors.

Institutional needs are collected along with budgetary provision and preferred brands / configurations and tenders are floated and quotations are invited.

Comparative statement is prepared and then negotiation is done on technical, financial and support service bases.

Finally purchase order is placed and payment is done after installation and verification of the equipment.

Maintenance and annual maintenance contract (AMC).

For smooth operations of all IT infrastructure and maximum up-time, routine in-house maintenance is carried out by network support team including computer lab assistant.

Annual maintenance contract is given for continuous support to solve various issues and problems to ensure minimum down time.

Logbook is maintained various places to record the problem details.

A dead stock register is maintained to keep record of all the equipment.

 

Services extended by computer department:

Routine installation and maintenance work of IT equipment of the institute.

Installation and maintenance of the software.

Management and maintenance of NAS server.

Management and maintenance of internet provision through wired and Wi-Fi network.

 Each classrooms and computer labs are equipped with ceiling mount projectors. Maintenance of these projectors is carried out by computer department.
